Pueblo, Colorado is home to some of the finest Fly Fishing in the state. The Arkansas River below Lake Pueblo Dam, a.k.a. the Pueblo Tailwater, has quickly gained a reputation for producing large rainbows and browns that grow fast and fight hard. While widely recognized as Colorado’s best winter fly fishing destination, the fishing is good as soon as high summer flows subside, typically by late August, and continues well into spring.

Walk-Wade Fly Fishing Trips
The Drift Fly Shop employs only the most knowledgeable, friendly and professional guides. Our guides live in Pueblo and are experts on the Arkansas River Tailwater. At The Drift, our guided trips are ‘all inclusive.’ While we encourage you to use your own gear, we happily provide waders, boots, rod, and reel, for the day at no additional cost. We also provide all the flies and terminal tackle for the FREE as well. The only exceptions are that you will be required to purchase a fishing license (which can be done in the shop the day of your trip) and it is customary to tip your guide at the conclusion of the day.
Guided Float Fishing Trip
Enjoy a full or half-day float fishing trip on the Pueblo Tailwater with your guide and shop owner, Alex Zipp. Alex has been floating the tailwater for 15 years and enjoys sharing this unique experience with clients. Fishing streamers for trophy trout is his preferred approach, however, nymph fishing and dry/dropper techniques are also effective. Rainbow and Brown Trout, Smallmouth Bass and Carp are all possibilities when floating the tailwater. Float trips require dam releases of at least 400 cfs, which typically occur from mid-May through June and July.
